Golf is a humbling game!

A week ago I was invited to play golf at the Old America golf course in Little Elm. Although it was a little cold, it was a great day for golf.

My game could not have started off better! A perfect drive right down the middle of the fairway! 125 yards from a pretty big green. Of course, my confidence is low on most shots and on my approach shot, I decided to go with an 8 iron which is one club too much. I hit it perfectly and ended up over the green. Even though I ended up with a bogey on the first hole, I was happy because my drive and my 8 iron were both hit well.

I had only used 41 shots at the turn (which is great for me) so I was fueled with optimism stepped up to the 10th tee box. Then all hell broke out.

The worst part of my game is my little wedge shots around the green. I just can't figure it out. On the back 9 I had three holes where I was only about 10 yards off the green. In all three cases, I hit OVER the green on my first edge shot, and then I UNDER compensated and didn't hit the green on my second wedge shot. Then, I three putted all three greens. There you go - 15 strokes on three greens - it'll kill your score every time.

The weird thing about golf is that even though this was over a week ago, I don't remember the 41 as much as I remember the 15 bad shots. Bottom line, if you don't play golf now, don't start - it is terrible for your mental health!
